Venue Review: Farleigh House in Bath, Somerset

Farleigh House Georgian Manor in English Countryside, Wedding Party Venue, Bath in Somerset, UK

This week we were invited to attend a gorgeous industry event at local venue close to us in The Cotswolds, and the home of Bath Rugby Club in the Somerset countryside,  Farleigh House. My husband, being a keen fan of Bath Rugby has attended corporate events at the venue beforehand, but I was keen to explore what they had to offer for my clients who are looking to host weddings or private parties in the area.

Dating back to the 18th Century when occupied by the Houlton Family, Farleigh House is certainly rich in history and is even mentioned in the Doomsday Book! Despite being home to a professional sports club the Grade II listed property has been carefully looked after and decorated beautifully inside and is well positioned for marquee events with 135 acres of land and only 15 mins from the City of Bath.

The Georgian mansion is impressive as I parked up and walked through the gardens to their grand entrance. Though clearly used for sports facilities I noticed that the grounds were immaculate and later discovered that all traces of rugby pitch kit could be removed for a reasonable fee. From courtyards to rose gardens and water fountains, it surely is the prettiest rugby club in the UK?

We enjoyed a simple yet delicious lunch in the Grand Hall, delivered by one of their catering partner Wild Fork West, with delicious wines (and some impromptu piano playing) from their wine expert Titus English from The Sporting Wine Club who ensures their cellar is well stocked.

There is plenty of room for a knock out tent structure for dining and dancing for up to 200 guests, as well as indoor and garden locations for a ceremony, drinks reception and after party. Though their current licence does end at 12.30am so not ideal for the late night revellers amongst you (unless you take everyone to a second secret location!).

For guests accommodation you are limited on site and so you’d be looking at local hotels like Homewood (5 min drive) or those in Bath city like The Gainsborough, The Royal Crescent or The Bath Priory. It is also less than 20 minutes by car to Babington House for those who are members of Soho House. The Newt is also 40 minutes away by car should you wish to extend a stay in the area, and in the opposite direction the pretty village (on my doorstep!) of Castle Combe is a similar distance.

I was incredibly impressed by the events team I met there during the day, which is an important aspect of any party or wedding venue, and can see they are willing to go above and beyond to deliver amazing experiences working closely with professional independent planners and designers to deliver for their clients.
